FAQs
NRYLL Frequently Asked Questions
When does the season start?
The season begins in early March with indoor sessions typically on weeknights. These are informal practices designed to transition into the season. The cost for indoor sessions is included in the spring registration fee.
How long does the season last?
Teams move outside as the weather permits, usually by early April. Game play starts in early April and ends in mid-June. Teams also participate in the end-of-season MYL jamboree, which occurs in mid-June.
How are the teams created?
Our league, Massachusetts Youth Lacrosse (MYL), mandates that we field teams of equal strength within each level. The coaches use the indoor sessions and early outdoor practices to gauge each player’s skill level, then work together in order to create balanced teams. There are no tryouts and no “cuts.”
When are games scheduled? Are all of the games played in town?
All games are played on Sundays; times vary week to week. MYL is a “travel” league. We play opposing teams in the Merrimack Valley, Cape Ann and North Shore regions. Average travel time for away games is 30 minutes. Our home games are on the NRHS Turf Field.
When and how long are the practices? When is the schedule determined?
Teams have two 90 minute practices per week on the HS Turf Field. Practices are in the evening after high school sports finish.
The outdoor practice schedule, beginning in mid-March, is as follows:
Mondays and Wednesdays
Boys 1/2 and 3/4: 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Boys 5/6 and 7/8: 7:30 – 9:00 p.m.
Tuesdays and Thursday
Girls 1/2 and 3/4: 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Girls 5/6 and 7/8: 7:30 – 9:00 p.m.
Which level is appropriate for my child?
Do I need to purchase a uniform or other special gear?
BOYS – Boys need a men’s game stick, helmet, shoulder pads, arm/elbow guards, gloves, mouthguard and a protective cup. Cleats or turf shoes are recommended, but not required.
GIRLS – Girls need a women’s game stick, protective goggles and mouthguard. Cleats or turf shoes are recommended, but not required.
Both boys and girls players will need to purchase a uniform. The cost of the uniform is in addition to the registration fee. Uniforms can be used for multiple years. More uniform information will be sent to families soon.
Can my daughter/son play an additional sport in the spring?
I don’t see the answer to my question here. How can I get more information?
Please email NRYouthLAX@gmail.com with any questions and a league member will get back to you as soon as possible.
